T
his home, nestled in a quiet Hendra street, originally lacked the natural light and space needed for modern living. After a detailed site inspection and careful measurements of the aging single-level dwelling, the vision to transform it into a contemporary and functional residence while preserving its original charm became clear. One of the main challenges was adhering to Brisbane City Council’s regulations, which required the pre-1946 home to remain intact. Demolition wasn’t an option, so the original front facade had to be preserved, maintaining the home’s historical character while seamlessly integrating modern design elements throughout the rest of the space.

The focus was on bringing in clean lines, natural materials, and creating a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor living. High ceilings, polished concrete floors, and large windows were incorporated to flood the home with natural light, making it feel open, airy, and connected to the essence of Queensland living. Externally, while adhering to council regulations, the home was given a sleek, modern facade with a bold color palette and materials that blend elegance with durability. The result is a home that beautifully balances its heritage with modern comfort, offering a space that feels both timeless and fresh.
